|
This thesis is to study on the life-strategies of the low-income female family heads who reside mainly in Busan Metropolitan City, Korea. It is well reported that many kinds of serious social problems have been resulted from the sudden increase in the number of the urban poor classes and, especially, those low-income female family heads. It has been suggested that there can be a close relationship between the living experiences and the poverty of the urban female heads. This thesis has focused upon the life-strategies of poor female family heads and arrived at the conclusion that it is seriously problematic to assume their identity and experience only to be that of passive and dependent victims. The conclusion is following; This study has found that these female heads show various types of life strategy by making the best of two dimensions of social relation network and gender ideology, in spite of economic, social, cultural and spatial risks which they suffer. Types of life strategy are following; Voluntary/Tradition Type, Non-voluntary/Tradition Type, Voluntary/Non-tradition Type, and Marginalization and Isolation Type. It is urgent that our society should carry into effect ‘de-poverty policy based on their types’ to help them to escape poverty.
